ABOUT THE COURSE

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to responsibly sell, serve or supply alcohol.

Responsible practices must be undertaken wherever alcohol is sold, served or supplied, including where alcohol samples are served during on-site product tastings. This unit therefore applies to any workplace where alcohol is sold, served or supplied, including all types of hospitality venues, packaged liquor outlets and wineries, breweries and distilleries. This course consists of the following modules: 
  • Introduction to RSA
  • Module 1: NSW liquor laws 
  • Module 2: Intoxication
  • Module 3: Minors
  • Module 4: Harm minimisation strategies and approaches
  • Module 5: Compliance and enforcement

  
 

MODES OF ASSESSMENT: 

Students will be assessed using the following modes of assessment:
  • Module Quiz for each module
  • Final Quiz 
  • Practical Assessment


DURATION: 

Be Qualified offer this course in a total of 10 hours. Students have 21 day to complete this course. The total hours for this course includes the all learning and practical activities undertaken by the students including any reading and participation in all assessments.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: 

If you are currently an overseas student on an International Student Visa you are welcome to enrol into this course with Be Qualified as we are CRICOS registered (No. 03478D).


Entry Requirements: 

There are no formal academic requirements for this course, however Be Qualified requires that all students:
  • Be at least 18 years old 
  • Successfully complete the enrolment process including LLN assessment
  • Hold a valid government issued photo identification card
  • Have access to a PC/laptop with speakers, microphone and webcam  
  • Have access to High speed wifi or cable capabilities necessary to research, upload and download documents
  • PDF reader
  • Hold sound computer skills
  • Have Windows 10, Mac OSX High Sierra, iPad IOS10 or higher  
There are no pre-requisites, however, this online RSA course requires sound English language, literacy and numeracy skills in order to complete the course and assessments. For example, students will need to calculate the amount of standard drinks in a range of beverages such as beer, cider, wine, spirits and cocktails.
 
Prior to commencing their course, students complete an online Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test that will identify the students learning needs and allow Be Qualified to provide the student with the learning support and resources needed to complete the course. The student is encouraged to contact the learning centre to talk to one of our student support team members if they require any further information.
 
Students can enrol into this course if they have never held an RSA competency card or if their competency card has expired for longer than 28 days.
 

REGULARTORY REQUIREMENTS: 

This course is approved by Liquor and Gaming NSW. 

Students obtaining a competency for this course will be awarded the Statement of Attainment for SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol and an Interim RSA Certificate. The Interim RSA Certificate can be used to commence work and is valid for 90 days. After 90 days an RSA competency card must be presented to work in any licenced premise.

To obtain the RSA competency card, the student will be required to take your interim RSA certificate along with 100 points of ID to a Services NSW Office and complete an application. For further information go to:

Recognition of Prior Learning: 

RPL/ Credit Transfer is not available for SITHFAB021 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol. However, if the student has completed an RSA course and have been deemed Competent within the last five years and their RSA Card is about to expire they are required to complete an RSA Refresher course. This course can be accessed via the Liquor & Gamming NSW website by going to: https://www.liquorandgaming.nsw.gov.au

If students have completed SITHFAB021 in another state and wish to work in the Liquor & Gaming industry in NSW they will be required to complete a Bridging course which can be accessed by going to: https://www.liquorandgaming.nsw.gov.au

If they have lost your RSA card and require a replacement this can be obtained by going to: https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/replace-rsa-or-rcg-competency-card.

Course Outcomes:

You will be issued an interim RSA certificate via email within 2 business days. This can be used to commence work and is valid for 90 days. After 90 days an RSA competency card must be presented to work in any licenced premise.

You can work in hospitality industry across NSW, where alcohol is supplied, sold or served. Possible job titles following the completion of this course include: 
  • Bartender
  • Waitress
  • Casual event coordinator
  • Bar Manager

Students successfully completing this course will be awarded a statement of attainment. Students may pursue a range of additional single units of competency, skill-sets and qualifications following the completion of this unit. Some of these include:

  • SIT30522 Certificate III in Events
  • SITHGAM022- Provide responsible gambling services
 

Learning Methods: 

ONLINE NSW STATE APPROVED COURSE ONLINE
This is an online course with all learning and assessment resources completed online. Practical  assessment is conducted via video recording. Ongoing support by the trainer and assessor is also provided online via email, phone and zoom.

Online - A variety of learning tools are available through our online resources, such as videos, reading material, handbooks, progress quizzes and other resources that will assist you with your learning.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: 

In order to complete this course online you will need the following:

  • Recommended internet browsers - Google Chrome, Safari, Internet Explore, Edge

ASSESSMENT: 

As this is an online course, all assessment tasks will be completed online. The assessment tasks consist of:
  1. Assessment Quiz at the end of each module
  2. Final Assessment Quiz
  3. Practical Assessment Tasks

Upon successful completion of the online assessments, you will receive your Interim Certificate within 2 business, which will allow you to commence your employment serving alcohol. The Interim Certificate is valid for 90 days. During this time, you will need to apply for a NSW Competency Card from Liquor and Gaming NSW.
